The Gambling Commission in 2008 found that almost 1m children had gambling problems, and Ipsos MORI research in June 2011 reported that 1 in 4 children aged 11-15 had gambled the previous week. Everyday our children will see advertising enticing them to gamble with offers of free bets luring them in, and though internet gambling and bingo websites claim to ban children under the age of 18, in reality it is all too easy for children to access them from their PCs and mobile phones. Most have a simple verification process - just ticking a box saying that they are over 18. Gambling can lead to serious debt, crime and long term addiction, resulting in devastating problems for the children and their families. This growing problem will continue to get worse unless the website operators are required to introduce age verification processes which actually work. We call upon the Government to require them to introduce effective controls and hold them to account.","committee_note":null,"state":"closed","signature_count":13,"created_at":"2011-10-28T13:54:49.000Z","updated_at":"2020-02-16T19:27:28.013Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2011-10-31T08:14:42.000Z","closed_at":"2012-10-31T08:14:42.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2011-10-28T13:54:49.000Z","response_threshold_reached_at":null,"government_response_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"debate_scheduled_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"rejection":null,"government_response":null,"debate":null,"departments":[],"topics":[]}},{"type":"archived-petition","id":18886,"links":{"self":"https://preview.epetitions.website/archived/petitions/18886.json"},"parliament":{"period":"2010-2015","government":"Conservative – Liberal Democrat coalition","dissolution_at":"2015-03-30T23:59:59.000+01:00","response_threshold":10000,"debate_threshold":100000},"attributes":{"action":"High earners should pay 100% market rate if they live in council housing","background":null,"additional_details":"Any family with a joint income above £60,000, living in social housing, should pay rent equivalent to market rates. There have been to many trade off's within manifestos and this has lead to the British voting public being misled. In other words government by default. This country, especially at this time needs a strong and focused government with a mandate from the voting public, yes, I accept we couldn't, or didn't vote a clear majority to any one party, but I believe that the party who lost the most votes should be automatically discounted from the next round of election's and consequently the manifesto of the strongest party would be adhered to by the letter, so the British public would be completely aware of the next five years plans for the country.
