At a time when our military bases are closing and our soldiers & police threatened with job losses, would it not make sense to introduce to courts, a new penalty of fixed duration military service. With the right approach the 'disaffected youth' rioters could learn to respect the communities in which they live and maybe even themselves, whilst at the same time learning what it means to be part of something more than just the individual. With our brave soldiers dying in Afghanistan, maybe it's time we showed those who riot, the values of discipline, respect and loyalty shown by those who give the ultimate sacrifice for their country.","committee_note":null,"state":"closed","signature_count":5,"created_at":"2011-08-16T08:31:19.000Z","updated_at":"2020-02-16T19:27:00.675Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2011-08-16T09:12:55.000Z","closed_at":"2012-08-16T09:12:55.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2011-08-16T08:31:19.000Z","response_threshold_reached_at":null,"government_response_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"debate_scheduled_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"rejection":null,"government_response":null,"debate":null,"departments":[],"topics":[]}},{"type":"archived-petition","id":2115,"links":{"self":"https://preview.epetitions.website/archived/petitions/2115.json"},"parliament":{"period":"2010-2015","government":"Conservative – Liberal Democrat coalition","dissolution_at":"2015-03-30T23:59:59.000+01:00","response_threshold":10000,"debate_threshold":100000},"attributes":{"action":"Revision of car driving licence system","background":null,"additional_details":"Re-structure the car driver licensing system to follow the principle of motor bikes - a two stage test with limits on the power of cars driven and no access to motorways (other than under tuition) prior to completion of stage two. I would also claim that these young mothers have been mentored to adopt this way of life by their peers who are also living in this way. What about the fathers? What incentive is there to stop young people from doing this? None at all. So what is the solution? I would suggest that all welfare payments be stopped in 9 months, with plenty of warning that this will happen by means of a television campaign.
