An apple costs £1. The Government needs to build a road. It will cost £50. The Government takes £50 off us as tax. The Government builds its road. We can now buy 50 apples with our £50.\r\n\r\nAlternatively, the Government prints £100. Because the money supply has doubled, £100 is now worth £50. The Government builds its road. We can now buy 50 apples with our £100.\r\n\r\nWhy do it the second way? We can throw out 99% our convoluted tax laws. No need for a tax collection bureaucracy. No need for 99% of companies or individuals to file any kind of tax return, ever. No need for tax lawyers or accountants. A pure efficiency gain.\r\n\r\nWhy sales tax? I'm a smoker. Smoking is bad for people and costs the NHS. The price of smoking needs to be high to discourage usage. A sales tax achieves that.\r\n\r\nNo throwing money from helicopters though. Hyperinflation sucks. Independent experts would calculate how much could healthily be printed. The limit would be binding.","committee_note":null,"state":"closed","signature_count":3,"created_at":"2012-02-14T21:55:52.000Z","updated_at":"2020-02-16T19:27:56.333Z","rejected_at":null,"opened_at":"2012-02-15T09:03:10.000Z","closed_at":"2013-02-15T09:03:10.000Z","moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2012-02-14T21:55:52.000Z","response_threshold_reached_at":null,"government_response_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"debate_scheduled_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"rejection":null,"government_response":null,"debate":null,"departments":[],"topics":[],"signatures_by_country":[],"signatures_by_constituency":[],"signatures_by_region":[],"other_parliamentary_business":[]}}}
