Petition End Local Council Monopoly's on Taxi MOT testing

Local Councils currently have the privilege of choosing whether or not to have a monopoly for MOT Testing on Taxi and Private Hire Vehicles.

Local councils can insist that all Taxi and Private Hire Vehicles have their MOT's done by the councils own testing stations.

THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED.
All MOT Testing Stations are governed by the Ministry of Transport and therefore all adhere to the same quality standards.
There is therefore no reason that Local Councils should be allowed in have such a monopoly other than to line their own back pockets as they can and do charge excessive amounts as they have no competition.
