Petition We oppose the funding of the former H blocks in the Maze prison, and ask that they be removed forthwith.
More details
We the undersigned believe that the decision of the Northern Ireland Office and of the First and
Deputy First Minister to allocate EU Peace III funding finances to what is being described as a ‘Conflict
Resolution Centre’ at the former HM Maze Prison, on or near the site of the former H-block cells and the
former hospital wing is wrong and counter productive to process of fostering peace and reconciliation in
Northern Ireland.
We believe that allocation of EU finance to this proposal is wrong because it has the potential to be
discriminatory and ‘can reasonably be considered offensive and divisive which could cause harm to
reconciliation in Northern Ireland’. We respectfully request that the EU adheres to its stated standards and
protocols and withdraws consent for the Conflict Resolution Centre expenditure and insists in the reallocation
of the finances to genuine peace and reconciliation projects in Northern Ireland.
