This is a petition to change the law in relation to the office of the Lord Chancellor.

The current Lord Chancellor is the first in recent history to not be a qualified lawyer.

Since a none qualified lawyer took the position there have been fundamental failures in the justice system.

In particular there have been problems with the court translator service, electronic tagging contracts and the prison service. This is in addition to the ongoing debates on legal aid.

The undersigned feel that a qualified lawyer is needed to hold the post and ask that the government change the nature of the position to make this a legal requirement.
