Child maintenance should be a set percentage of earnings, whether you are on benefits or earnings. £7 a week for a person on benefits is an insult to the child. £1 a day does not cover 50% of a child's food bill, let alone clothes and living costs. If individuals are to be made responsible for their children, then the amount paid should be realistic.
