When importing items that are unavailable from the EU VAT is applied and the company who is deemed responsible for delivery charge a handling fee.
Under current laws anything that is over £15 is taxable by the government on import from outside the EU.
This petition is to call on the government to force carriers to lower the amount they charge on handling charges as they often outweigh how much the tax actually comes to.
This is actually counterproductive for the government as it is off putting for domestic customers to import from overseas and therefore they will lose the tax that is added from the import.
It is wholly unacceptable for these companies to pay the tax on your behalf without permission and claim it back in it's entirety with added charges.
