Rejected petition Political education in the curriculum

There should be a compulsory subject of politics in the curriculum in secondary schools, similar to the role of R.E or PSHE which allows young citizens to gain knowledge of the political world.

The lessons would also identify the different methods of civic participation such as e-petitions, peaceful protests and rallies often more attractive to younger people who have something specific they want changed. This would give young people a better opportunity to take part in politics and as it filtered through the system, the first students of the subject would prospectively be more active in politics as adults.

Furthermore, the subject should be tailored to educating the students in modern day politics and the workings of the system, which in turn will hopefully encourage them to get involved. This then will give citizens by voting age some political knowledge which a majority says lack of deters them from voting.
