Rejected petition Allow sexually active homosexuals to give blood.

More details

Currently any man who has performed oral or anal sex with another man with or without a condom in the last 12 months is NOT allowed to give blood.

'Every year 1,000 people die waiting for a transplant. However, only 4% of people regularly give blood...' (NHS).

According to government estimates, around 6% of the UK population are homosexual or bisexual. This equates to an estimated 3,840,000 people who could give blood.

The gay community take a very safe approach to sex in fact, 'People living with HIV who were exposed through heterosexual sex are the largest group...'(NAT).

Why are we disallowing homosexuals with active sex lives to give blood when hundreds of lives could be saved if they were allowed to donate?
All blood is tested before given to a patient so no lives are at risk.

This e-petition is supporting the complete removal of the 12 month deferral so that homosexual men can donate blood regardless of their sexual activity.
