Petition Allow children of deceased servicemen to access records
More details
On behalf of the children of deceased servicemen/women, we call upon the MoD to step up and allow us to access our parents' service records.
Currently the Ministry of Defence does not allow children if deceased servicemen/women to access their parent's service record without the consent of the "immediate next of kin" - their spouse.
In many cases it is impossible to gain the consent of the immediate next of kin, which forces those who wish to gain access to submit a general request, rather than a familial one, which many times leads to the information they want to see being censored, amended or cut down to very basic facts.
The Ministry of Defense needs to change their policy to meet with changing, modern times, where remarriages occur and children may not be able to access their parent's spouse to gain consent. The current system is archaic, and distressing for many people.
ALLOW ACCESS TO SERVICE RECORDS TO IMMEDIATE BLOOD RELATIVES!
