A quarter of all the 15-19 year olds who die are killed in cars. Something must be done.\r\n\r\nThis petition has one aim – to reduce that death toll by training young people to understand road safety and hazard perception at a younger age.  This life-saving training should begin at school as a part of every child’s curriculum.\r\n\r\nResearch shows that road safety messages are better absorbed by children in their early teens. Pilot studies in Europe show a 40% reduction in accidents for those who train at school. In the UK, independent research on pre-17 driving lessons shows that pupils have 50% less accidents.\r\n\r\nThe Government should support this overwhelming body of evidence and by signing this petition you can help force a House of Commons debate. We don’t want to change the driving age – only the age we start teaching children how to drive safely.\r\n\r\n100,000 signatures could help save 400 precious lives each year.\r\n","committee_note":null,"state":"rejected","signature_count":1,"created_at":"2015-02-24T14:21:45.000Z","updated_at":"2020-02-16T19:30:32.962Z","rejected_at":"2017-06-21T12:46:08.033Z","opened_at":null,"closed_at":null,"moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2015-02-24T14:21:45.000Z","response_threshold_reached_at":null,"government_response_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"debate_scheduled_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"rejection":{"code":"duplicate","details":null},"government_response":null,"debate":null,"departments":[],"topics":[]}}}
